NCC’s General Admissions Process and Requirements

To join our community, candidates must:

Obtain our school catalog and program-specific brochures for comprehensive information.
Attend a personal interview and tour our campus to get a feel of the NCC community.
Pass the entrance evaluation(s) relevant to the chosen program of interest.
Complete and submit an application for admission.
Provide proof of a valid high school diploma or an equivalent qualification (GED, HiSET).
Pay a one-time registration fee of $75.
Successfully pass a standardized basic skills assessment that gauges the aptitude for successful completion of the chosen program. (See Entrance Exam below)

NCC Admissions Requirements for Ability-To-Benefit (ATB) Students

ATB candidates, who are beyond the age of compulsory attendance within the state and have completed one of the ability-to-benefit (ATB) alternatives and are either currently enrolled in an eligible career pathway program or first enrolled in an eligible postsecondary program prior to July 1, 2012, may use ATB.

NCC Admissions Requirements for Distance Education

The above-stated requirements apply, with the addition of demonstrating basic computer competencies including keyboarding, word processing, email management, internet navigation, and search engine use. Provide proof of residency in the state of California (Driver’s license or a Utility bill with a Physical Address)

Entrance Exam

Scholastic Level Exam (SLE): All applicants are required to take the SLE, a test measuring problem-solving abilities, featuring 50 varied questions to be completed in 12 minutes without external aids. Applicants may attempt the SLE a maximum of two times. The passing scores are:

12 for diploma programs: Dental Assistant, Medical Assistant, & Medical Office Specialist
16 for degree programs: Business Management and Accounting & Healthcare Administration
21 for the Vocational Nursing program

Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS): Applicants to the Vocational Nursing Program must also pass the TEAS exam after the SLE. The TEAS exam assesses essential academic skills; it is not a pass/fail test but requires a minimum score of 45.0% in the Basic Score Range of ATI “Academic Preparedness Levels” to qualify.
